Historic Biloxi Walking Tour – Stop #1
Katrina Memorial
Your tour begins at the Katrina Memorial on Biloxi Town Green. The Katrina Memorial is dedicated to those residents who lost their lives in the storm. The height of the memorial equals the depth of the storm surge during the hurricane. Local residents donated the items found in the case. Also on the Town Green itself, you will notice a raised platform encircling a live oak tree. This platform is known as a “shoo-fly.” In earlier times, these structures were common because they provided respite from pesky insects and offered a cooler place to pass the time and catch the Gulf breezes.
➵ Walk one block north on Lameuse Street to the next location.
